Why should you go with us?
There are several reasons that you should go with us for your firewood this winter. To understand these reasons, let’s talk about some factors that separate good firewood from not-so-good firewood.
The first and most obvious factor is dryness. Have you noticed how we keep mentioning ‘well-seasoned’ firewood? Are you wondering what that means? After a tree is chopped down, it’s important to dry out the wood for a year or so. This process is called ‘seasoning’, and it ensures that the wood burns hot, is super easy to light, and most importantly, burns clean. Firewood that has not been properly seasoned will not burn clean, thus causing excess soot, which no one wants.
The type of wood can also affect how clean the firewood burns. For example, wood with a high resin content will always burn less clean than wood with a lower resin content. That’s one of the reasons that we always use hardwoods for our firewood bundles, as hardwoods have a lower resin content than softwoods.
Another reason that we use hardwood firewood is because of the density and strength of the wood. Strong, dense hardwoods burn slow, hot, and steady, which is exactly how you want your firewood to burn. So, let’s do a quick review. You want to buy firewood that’s dry, easy to light, has a low resin content, burns clean, burns hot, burns slow, and burns steady. Check, check, check, check, check, check, check. That’s exactly the type of firewood we sell! Come on down to The Straw Farm and get your well-seasoned, clean-burning, dry firewood today!
Bonus tip:
After you’ve picked up your firewood bundles and brought them back to your property, it’s a good idea to keep the bundles elevated to avoid water absorption, which will negatively affect how your firewood burns. Almost any surface will do if you don’t have a rack. Pallets, bricks, etc., will do just fine for elevation purposes. Cover the top, leave the sides open for healthy airflow, and you’re good to go!
